Animation South Africa, The France-South Africa Seasons 2012 & 2013, the NFVF and Wesgro cordially welcome you to Kunjanimation 2012, South Africa’s only national event exclusively dedicated to celebrating the art and business of animation. This year, we are proud to bring some of the world’s most exciting animation and animators to the Mother City for a week of sharing knowledge, strengthening our ties with the industry abroad, and of course, exploring South Africa’s own emerging talent. 2012′s programme features screenings of a remarkable variety of work from across Europe and Africa, which we are pleased to be able to open to the general public. We are particularly excited to be hosting a select audience at the Cape Town premieres of two highly-lauded features: Jean-Francois Laguionie’s Le Tableau, and South Africa’s own Adventures in Zambezia, produced by Triggerfish.
An important new focus for the festival’s second edition is professional education and skill-sharing. For animation professionals at every level, a truly magnificent schedule of learning opportunities awaits, with talks, workshops and discussions led by the country’s most respected studios, including BlackGinger, Triggerfish, Imaginari and Strika Entertainment. In a first for South Africa, Kunjanimation 2012 will also be offering a series of master classes on character animation, to be led by Dreamworks animator Alexandre Heboyan and facilitated by his alma mater, world-renowned French animation college Gobelins, l’École de l’Image.
In keeping with its original goal of creating a platform for intercontinental networking and exchange, Kunjanimation will also be broadening its business offering this year. In this respect, we are pleased to continue our close collaboration with France’s most prestigious annual industry event, the Annecy International Animation Festival, and its market, MIFA.
Whether you’re a fifty-year industry veteran, a new graduate, or just a movie-lover, you’re guaranteed to find something to get excited about at Kunjanimation 2012. So join us in saying kunjani to a new season of exchange between our local industry and others across the world, and enjoy this splendid tribute to an ever-changing art-form.
Event organised as part of the France-South Africa Seasons 2012 & 2013.
